Salford Uni x New York presentation

I am very excited about NYFW starting up again. The city always comes alive with so many interesting events and pop ups, not to mention the fabulously dressed folks gracing our humble sidewalks for the week.

My first event this go-round was the Salford Uni x New York presentation, where a group of the best design students from The University of Salford converge upon New York to show off their best stuff. Boy, did they deliver.

As you can see from the above, there was a lot of variety in the designs – from punky ensembles to clean cut ones. Now, let’s talk designers:

DEM

I love that DEM is short for “Demo”, which is Chinese designer Yingxin Jiang’s English name. The designs are sophisticated and clean, like this beautiful white coat / tan turtleneck combination:

Barbara Bechta

These designs were by far my favorite, but I am biased to dark fantasy looks. Barbara combined leather and feathers to create these edgy looks:

Nephew

These patterns from Nephew were gorgeously put together. They were vibrant, yet modern, and I highly recommend checking out his Instagram for more.

Ques Quest

This was such a fun collection that I would best describe as ‘neon streetwear’. Also, if you are a sneakerhead, check out his Blue Tint Camo McQueens (quite possibly the only camo design I’ll ever like ;p).

Śilpa

I was really getting Basquiat vibes from Śilpa. These designs were very ‘street graffiti chic’ and I liked how this patchwork jacket came together (a bit reminiscent of Pia Bolte to me even). I am also absolutely in love with this fur coat, which I am now kicking myself for not purchasing in the shop section of this presentation because it’s now sold out online.

And an added bonus…

On the way back I passed by the Alexander Wang pre-NYFW party, so that was a plus. The denim jacket game was very strong.

What a way to wrap up the evening!Overall, I have to say that I was very impressed by what Salford presented and I’m looking forward to following these designers’ careers. Who knows, maybe one of them will be the next Wang. 😉
